Everyone who is anyone in the mafia scene is seated around the room, but something doesnât feel right. Salvatore doesnât gather people for no reason, and it makes me nervous.
âLadies and Gentlemen, I know youâre all wondering why we are here tonight, and itâs just simply because I want to celebrate my beautiful daughter. As you all know, she is due to be wed and has asked me if she can pick her own groom.â
Laughter echoes around the venue. Fucking pigs, laughing as if the thought of a woman picking her own husband is absurd. Jaz reaches over and grasps my leg under the table.
âSo, I have decided to up the ante, because who wouldnât want to marry a Bianchi woman. I want any eligible bachelors to try and sweep my daughter off her feet. I hope you all like the entertainment. I have my best fighter Alistair on the schedule for the night, and anyone game enough to take him on to win a chance with my daughter.â
I look over at Street Rat, and he shrugs; this is the first that he has heard of it. Once Salvatore finishes his speech, he comes down to our table.
âPapa, why did you do that?â
âBecause any man with my daughter needs to prove himself. Alistair has proved he is strong enough to look after my baby girl.â
Romeo joins his father and claps him on the shoulder. âWe donât need no pussy little bitch walking amongst us, you need a real man.â
Jazlyn knows there is no point arguing, what her father says is final. He rules the family, and there is nothing that she can do that will change his mind.
âAre you ready?â Salvatore asks Street Rat, and he nods.
âI was born ready, especially if your daughter is the prize, no man will beat me.â
âThatâs what I like to hear,â Salvatore says with a laugh that bellows out of him and echoes around us.
âRomeo will take you back so you can get ready.â
Street Rat stands from his chair and walks away with Romeo. Some old guy that could be a knock off for Tony Soprano gains Salvatoreâs attention, and he walks away. Jaz sighs, and her shoulders drop. I open my mouth to say something, but Armando shocks me when he leans forward.
âDonât worry, Princess, I might be willing to compete with that fucker, but any other man wins tonight, and he will end up in a shallow grave.â
I know he doesnât trust Alistair or Abel, and he is right to feel that way. The guy is always so fucking perceptive, and he makes the picture-perfect husband for her. But Jazlyn deserves more than that, she deserves the world. I just hope that none of us get ourselves killed in the process because I for one like to live.
âWhatâs your deal?â Boo asks Armando, leaning back in his chair, his arms across his chest.
âMy deal?â Armando asks, âIs that I donât trust you or your friend, but I will humor my future wife, and you can compete for her affection.
